Learning Targets
I can analyze rhythms by assigning notes arrows and numbers
Rhythm Diagramming Rules
1. Every beat has two arrows: one down arrow followed by one up arrow.
Keep the beat by tapping your foot!
Remember to alternate arrows...your foot can't go down without coming back up
2. Every arrow corresponds to a syllable.
In order for musicians to keep track of where they are in the music, they often use syllables such as "1 an 2 an 3 an 4 an".
3. If a note consists of multiple syllables, draw parentheses around the duration after the first syllable.
We want to know when the note starts and hold out that note for it's full value.
4. For rests, put all syllables in parentheses and write an "R" under it.
Rests = silence
