Essential Question
Who can serve as your role model for the instrument you play? One of the biggest disappointments expressed by college directors is that high school students can't even name ONE person who plays their instrument. How can play with a great sound if we don't have great role models? Playing great music is about "stealing" and "copying" ideas from the greats and making it into your own.
I'm going to pretend like I'm a composer and tell you about my role models.

Find one Local (lives in hawaii)When I think of Matt Catingub, I think of him more as an arranger than a composer. He lives in LA now, but he used to conduct the Hawaii Pops Orchestra for a long time back in the day. His jazz arrangements are played everywhere around the world!

Find One National (lives in USA)John Williams, the most well-known prolific film composers of all time! I love the soaring horn lines and full orchestrations.

FIND ONE International (outside USA)Another fantastic film score composer, Joe Hisaishi from Japan. I love watching Miyazaki films and hearing the music beautifully complement the animations.

FIND ONE deceased ComposerWhen I need to relax myself, I turn to French impressionist composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918). He wrote beautiful, slow, spacey, mesmerizing pieces for piano and orchestras.
